Processing of Location Elements

In this step the location structure that the BIM model provides can be preprocessed and validated and after that, locations can be created/updated in MainManager according to that setup.

What the user does here:

Run the action <Preprocess and validate BIM model location elements>

Purpose:

With this action the BIM elements that have been imported for a certain model are preprocessed to check if they can be used to create locations in MainManager and if they are on the right format. It is necessary that a mapping set has been created so that the action knows which attributes of the model are used to define the location.

If the mapping set demands this the action will look at the identification that is registered on the location BIM elements and if they are ok according to MainManager. Those who are not ok are marked specially in the tree on the left side (i.e. if the import is using a mapping set that demands that a locator/identification is registered in the model).

Execution:

  1. Press Actions > Preprocess and validate BIM model location elements
  2. Choose the mapping set that the action should use.
  3. Press Confirm.

The user can see how the mapping set attributes have been processed into the BIM elements by opening the registration window for a <BIM element>:

If a location structure partially exists on the site (for example the building already registered), the user can in this step connect the location elements from the BIM model to an existing location structure in MainManager. That is done by dragging the items from right to left and dropping them in the right place (or vice versa).

Process BIM Elements that intersect

Purpose:

This action queries the model for all <IfcSpace> elements to see what elements intersect each one of them. The result is stored in the <BIM Element Intersect> table (under BIM Element). The action is accessible through the BIM viewer. The action will run in the background. When the action has finished running you will get a message about that.

Execution:

  1. Press action  <Process elements that intersect>
  2. Press “OK” to run action and wait for it to run
  3. You will get a message when the action has finished running

Later in the process, when the systems have been created, it is possible to locate them in the right building spaces according to this intersection (see here).

Create/Update location structure from BIM model

Purpose:

This action creates (or updates) locations from BIM elements in a model. For this to be possible the preprocessing action must be run first to check if the elements are valid to create locations and are on the right format. It is necessary that a mapping set has been created (also used in preprocessing) that defines which attributes from the model are used to create location objects.

Before the action is run, the location BIM elements are visible in the right tree. That should give an example on how the location structure (buildings, floors and building spaces) will look after creation. After the action has been run the actual location structure in MainManager will be visible in the left tree and in the right tree the icons will change and the BIM elements that actually create a location are connected to that location and become bold.

Execution:

  1. Press <Create/Update location structure from BIM model>
  2. Select the buildings that shall be created from the model (and steps below)
  3. Press Confirm.

When the location structure has been created in MainManager, the next step can be taken to create systems from the BIM model.
