The BIM Viewer

When the BIM model has been imported then it is possible to view the model in the BIM viwer. The viewer has two different views; 2D view and 3D view. The viewer is accessible through the <BIM icon> in the location toolbar.

                 

The 2D Viewer

The 2D viewer shows the 2D representation of the 3D model. The viewer shows a red arrow that displays the point of view in the 3D viewer. It is possible to drag and move the arrow inside the 2D viewer which will move the point of view in 3D viewer. Another possibility is to double click anywhere in the 2D viewer which will move the arrow to the point clicked (and hence the point of view in the 3D viewer).

The following buttons are visible in the 2D viewer:

  1. Hides/shows the 2D viewer
  2. Maximizes/minimizes the 2D viewer

The 3D viewer

The 3D viewer shows the 3D representation of the BIM model. The viewer supports various ways to navigate within the model:

Using the mouse:

  • Holding the left button on the mouse and at the same time moving the mouse will move the looking direction in model. Move the mouse up -> look up. 
  • Holding the right button and moving the mouse will move the point of view in the same direction. Move the the mouse up -> point of view will move up
  • Double clicking on an element within the model will move the point of view to that element.

Using the joystick:

  • Using the joystick (see number 1 on below picture). Click on the joystick and move the mouse in the driection that you want to navigate within the model.

Using keyboard shortcuts:

  • W: Move forward
  • S: Move back
  • D: Move right
  • A: Move left
  • C: Move down
  • X: Move up
  • Q: Look left
  • E: Look right
  • R: Look up
  • F: Look down

Selecting and working with elements:

The following actions are possible on the elements within the viewer:

  • Click on an element: 
    1. The selected element will turn green. It is possible to select multiple elements by holding the CTRL cutton whilst selecting them.
  • Right click inside the viewer:
    1. Single element selected: If the element is connected to an object in MainManager then it is possible to open the property window for that object. Otherwise, it is possible to open the property window for the BIM element being clicked.
    2. Multiple elements selected: It is possbile to do actions that apply to multiple elements. For example create an issue, locate them, etc.
  • Hide an element:
    1. First click on an element and then press on the H button on the keyboard. 
  • Make an element translucent
    1. First click on an element and then press the T button on the keyboard.

The following buttons are visible in the 3D viewer:

  1. The joystick (see above explanation how the joystick is used).
  2. Shows BIM tree/MainManager tree
    1. It is possible to select nodes in the trees and the 3D viewer will hightlight them
  3. Viewpoint button
    1. Possible to change the viewpoint in the 3D viewer
    2. Home/top/right/left/front/back
  4. View button
    1. Changes the view type in the 3D viewer
    2. Regular/contour/sketch
  5. Mouse actions button
    1. Shows available mouse actions in the 3D viewer
    2. Object picker/laser measure/tape measure
  6. The action button where it is possible to do various actions connected to the 3D viewer, for example:
    1. Reset the viewer
    2. Only show elements connected to objects in MainManager
    3. Run <Process elements that intersect>
    4. Only show location elements
    5. Only show system elements
    6. Hide/show BIM models (if project includes multiple BIM Models)
  7. Change projects on selected site. This button is only shown if more than one BIM project on site.
